Scientific Background
Sulindac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is known to prevent recurrence and reduce colorectal polyps. It is a prodrug that is metabolized to a sulfide and sulfone derivative in vivo. The mechanism of action of both is the selective induction of apoptosis. The anti-inflammatory properties of sulindac are mediated by COX inhibition (1, 2).
